6/1 – Flare Jeans, White Reaper, The Distorted Waltz, Jerry Fels @ The Courthouse

This Saturday – The Courthouse presents a unique cross-genre show filling out the lineup with everything from Fuzz rock to radicalism inspired Casio-folk.  Essentially, this show has everything you ever wanted, including a good time.

The show starts at nine and you don’t want to miss a minute.

DONATE AND RESPECT ALL THE PEOPLE AND STUFF.

Flare Jeans (Louisville, KY) – A pop/indie sound layered with innovative progressions and perfectly placed emotive vocals.  Flare Jeans not only adds a particular low-fi twist to the never ending indie/emo genre, they remind us why we fell in love with that sort of music in the first place – sure to put a smile on your face in all the right/wrong ways.

White Reaper (Louisville, KY)  – This is good ol’ American Rock ‘n’ Roll with a twenty first century throwback twist.  White Reaper is a non-stop onslaught of fuzzy guitar riffs, fuzzier vocals, straight rock rhythms, completed with a noisy vibe that avoids the obscure and leave only the good feeling usually associated with Rock ‘n’ Roll.

The Distorted Waltz (Bay City, MI) – The alternative influence and foundation of this four-some is clear, but their collective dynamic has led them far past their origins into a unique synthesis of captivating jams and extremely well written songs.  Distorted Waltz is a groove with each member contributing a unique touch to the overall experience – and it sure is one hell of an experience.

Jerry Fels And The Jerry Fels – Jerry Fels, with a Casio keyboard, a guitar, and a thoughtfully ironic and radical lyricism, plays American folk for our generation.  Fels’ style of folk is certainly novel and stimulating, but it is the poignancy and the relevancy of his lyricism that will have you listening to every track he ever recorded, while begging for more.

Punk / Emo Friday 5/24 @ The Courthouse

Great night of punk rock and emo coming this Friday to The Courthouse. We have 5 acts all from the Midwest coming out for what’s sure to be an awesome show!

Into it. Over it. Somewhere in between the Smoking popes and Sparta, Into it. Over it. puts together an amazing set. Since the debut of their first full length studio album, Proper, these guys have been generating a lot of well deserved buzz. Make sure you don’t miss these guys from Chicago and show them a little Kzoo love!

Pop Punk, Emo, Post Punk

Kittyhawk This band makes some real mellow and poignant music. Kate Grube delivers lyrics with a voice you’d expect to be fronting a modern folk band instead of an Emo four piece from Chicago; but some how it works perfect, creating a sincere and intimate sound.

Alternative,  Emo. Indie Rock

Brave Bird This Ann Arbor trio delivers a really tight, high-energy show. Their sound is full of complex rhythms and a gut wrenching, gritty singing style.

Emo, Indie, Math, Punk

George Costanza Kzoo locals George Costanza have an eclectic take on the punk genre that really escapes a solid definition of sound. What ever you want to call it, they rock.

Punk, Dingus, Emo, Scremo, Twinkly

Running Shoes  Strait out of GR with a style that’s both familiar and still fresh. These guys have some really interesting guitar riffs that trade off playfully with some fairly complex drumming. Its like Jazz with distortion and angst.

Punk, Emo, Twinkly

Show starts at 9pm.  Come hang out! Unless you hate your ears or something. As always any donations for the out of town acts is wicked appreciated!

Rockin’ Rockin’ Record Store 5.21 9:30PM

The Corner Record Shop is hosting an indie rock extravaganza, featuring four solid acts, three of which are some outta towners.

GRASS IS GREEN are an angular, energy-filled punk influenced force from Boston. Heavy sounds with catchy hooks that create a want to dance and break stuff simultaneously (do not break or damage the record store’s merchandise)

OVLOV are a grungy pop wall of lush guitars also coming out of the east coast. They have an energy that makes you wish they were your favorite local band to sing all the words along with.

RADIATOR HOSPITAL are a former Grand Rapids now Current Philly band based around songwriter Sam Cook-Parrot. Ranging from high-energy powerpop full band performances, to solo acoustic bummerpop renditions, and spawning from lo-fi bedroom recordings, Sam covers all bases of truly excellent pop music.

BORING PEOPLE are local new sensation, bringing a full band take to a local songwriter’s long time bedroom recording project. If Ovlov are the band you wish were your local favorites, Boring People are sure to become near and dear to your heart.

This show starts at 9:30! Pring money for the touring folks, and bring money to buy records because the register will still be open. Bring your own beer if that’s what you require. Bring your lovely positive self and all your buddies.

Folk Of All Sorts Tonight @ Kalamazoo Institute o’ Farts (Former Full House 2.0) 5-17

From the ethereal to the angular, the Kalamazoo Institute o’ Farts will be covering many forms of folk and folk influenced tonight.

DEAR RABBIT – jangly gypsy vaudvillian onslaught traveling from Colorado.

LINCOLN COUNTY WAR – local folk punk duo, meshing gruff and distraught with beautiful violin.

DEEP WATERS – a band of folk players making dreamy spacy and (potentially) keyboardy sounds.

ARMS AKIMBO – a one man band of dwelling on the past while simultaneously getting up and moving on.

This show is at 8:00 PM. Bring a couple of dollars for the touring folks.

Oh, Dear Rabbit, not deer rabbit. Sorry, Jackalope!

5/15 – SRVVLST, Pride and Ego Down, Tir Asleen, Lions, Pro Con Pro @ The Courthouse

Image

A grand old night of progressive, post-hardcore jams coming up this Wednesday (5/15) at The Courthouse.  Post-hardcore has long been a staple of the local music scene here in Southwest-Michigan and we’ve got four touring acts bring their own twist to the ever expanding genre, with Kzoo’s Pro Con Pro closing the show out.  Not to limit any of the artists by a single label, the variety of sound pumping through each act is monumental.  You should expect to be lulled melodically one second, only to find yourself in a mosh pit the next, with many experimental flavors in between.

The doors are at eight and the show will start sometime after nine – bring the bucks for the touring bands – bring some respect for all – and bring the dancing shoes.
