Yo, folks! Tomorrow (Thursday, 6.27), Victory House is having their FINAL SHOW! As if that wasn’t enticing enough in and of itself, there’s also gonna be a cookout before the show! Cookout starts at 6:00 PM so head over there and bring some food to share and have yourself some good eats before the good jamz start at 7:00 PM.

Bands on the bill include a bunch of local favorites and one touring act (bring some $$dollar billz$$ for them, gas is expensive!) Also I am terrible at descriptions, just listen to the bandcamp links d00dz:

GEORGE COSTANZA – screamy twinkly http://georgecostanzaband.bandcamp.com/

REPTILIAN ALBUM RELEASE (sort of) + TOUR KICKOFF @ THE 411 6.26

New album Low Health

Local basement-favorites are pulling themselves out of the house venues for the purpose of playing a big show with their friend in celebration of their new album “Low Health.” Though tapes will be available of the new record, the LP will not be available locally until later. However, you can stream the entire thing right now on bandcamp to tide yourself over! This show is also a kickoff for a month long tour the dudes will be embarking on.

The show will also feature four other excellent acts: CADDYWHOMPUS, ALL PEOPLE, EMPIRE! EMPIRE!, GEORGE COSTANZA.

Show will begin right at 9:00! The cost is $5. Respect the space, make friends, tip your bartender.

SATURDAY! ALL STAR ACOUSTIC SHOW AT CORNER RECORD SHOP!

Corner Record Shop is bringing the heat tomorrow night! Some top notch national touring folks + a local favorite. As always, this is show is All Ages and everyone is invited. Here’s the scoop:

– JASON ANDERSON –

insideJasonAnderson_02[1]

“Electrifying audiences with his impassioned, soulful performances, Jason Anderson’s concerts are often described as life changing. Equal parts soul revue and rock ‘n’ roll revival, Anderson brings to mind mid-70’s bootlegs of Springsteen and Van Morrison. His energy and enthusiasm have made his show a one-of-a-kind sensation in bars and basements everywhere. NOT TO BE MISSED!”

Jason played at No Fun House a while back with Paul Baribeau. Don’t miss this second opportunity!

– GREY GORDON –

Perhaps you got a chance to see him play at No Fun House last year. If so, then you know this is gonna be good. Grey is a rising star of the midwest DIY community. Recently signed to No Sleep Records and gaining new friends and fans with every show. Combining elements of modern folk with a heavy 90’s emo influence. Y’all are sure to love it!

– PETER COOK –

Kalamazoo’s golden child. Member of many great local bands over the years (Boring People, Philly Crawlers, Edward, Forget The Times, Sleeper Agent…). Peter will be gifting us with a rare solo performance. Word on the street is he might be going electric on this one too. Get ready!

– RYAN KERR –

On tour with Grey Gordon. Roots influenced acoustic songs with plenty of passion and spirit.

As you can see, no slackers on this bill. Gonna be a night to remember!

Three of the four people playing this show are on tour. So, please be generous with yr donations! Jason is gonna have some killer merch too. Grey and Ryan are also raising funds for a split 7″ and will be taking pre-orders at the show.

Doors will be open all night and music kicks off around 9:30. Register will be open if anyone wants to do some late night shopping.

Packed High-Energy Summertime Show at Milhouse 6.16

Milhouse has taken a risk and booked three touring bands on three different tours. The reason: because all these bands are going to kick.

Signals Midwest are a high-energy midwest hardcore band from Cleveland. Their album Latitudes and Longitudes is infectious, and presents an intensity that promises to translate well to the live show.

High Dive are a posi queercore pop punk band returning to Milhouse, bringing a new EP with them. Comprised of Plan-It-X records artists Toby Foster and Ryan Woods, They are packed with thought filled lyrics in a loud and fast package.

Sleepyhead are making their Kalamazoo debut, traveling all the way from Minnesota, bringing tappy hardcore emo to round out the evening with them.

Local support includes Jake Simmons & The Little Ghosts  – Americana fused with pop punk featuring Kalamazoo’s best front man, and Tim Tapper opening up the night with songwriting that is both political and emotional, coupled with solid guitar playing.

Show is starting at 9:00 PM on the dot. PLEASE DONATE TO THE TOURING BANDS. Three outta towners all need gas. There will be hand-printed 11X17s of the flyer available to purchase when you donate. Respect the house, respect the bands, respect yourself, skate or not.

As usual if you don’t know the address, email DIT.

Crumbelievable. Truly.

Flyer by Monica Dubray

If you weren’t already keenly aware – and I believe you may not be because I was in the same boat until recently – there is a group of people working hard to cultivate a thriving DIY spoken word scene right here in Kalamazoo.

The epicenter for this action can be pinpointed at the Delta House where they host bi-weekly poetry readings, each of which showcases a handful of selected readers and then afterwards opens up the floor to anyone interested in reading in an open mic style.

One such reading is happening TONIGHT and will be featuring Kalamazoo poets Cal Lafountain, Jarad “The Saxsquatch Selner,” Joe Costello, Kali Doud, Korey Hurni, and Jesse Duke.
