Just when you thought all the good tunes were behind us, Louies Back Room brings in another incredible line up.
Batcave
Have you ever wondered what Batman listens to in the Bat Mobile? The answer is Batcave. Not that you’d need anymore information than that to be completely invested, they have a psychedelic, post-punk sound that’s easy to dance along to.
The Counter Elites
Prepare to get kicked in the face by rock-n-roll! The Counter Elites are traveling all the way from the dirty D to bring Kzoo that classic punk rock sound. The music is reminiscent of the Ramones, Dead Kennedy’s, and Crass. The songs range in meaning, but are mostly politically .
Inflatable Best Friend
http://inflatablebestfriend1.bandcamp.com/
Oh, I’m sorry. Did you want to take a breather from the awesomeness of the night? That’s a real shame because Inflatable Best Friend is coming at you with some straight Kalamazoo post-punk, garage rock!
M. Sord
Drums. Keyboards. Man. These are the three things that make up M. Sord. Mike Sord created this one-guy-gig in 2002 to try and recreate/pay homage to the synth music of the 80’s. Let your guard down and enjoy everything about M. Sord’s totally rad electronic, Nintendo-like jam sessions!
Doors open at 8:30 p.m. The Show is scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m. There is a $5 suggested cover. Be there or be square!
Boring People is one of my favorite Kalamazoo bands:
Strangewave is warm and floaty:
Chris Rawlins makes pop music:
Doors open at 9 and music starts shortly after. Bring money for the out-0f-towners. Bring your own good things to drink. Bring tidings of good will and love to your fellow show-goers. LET’S DO A THING, Y’ALL.
There has been a rumble of conversation around diverse-line up shows. Why can’t bands of a different genre be on the same bill? Is Kalamazoo falling into the ‘same band’//’different day’ sort of pattern? I don’t know the answer to that question. I do know that going to a show that includes several genres has been refreshing and inclusive for me. So here’s an example of one :
Friday, the Kalamazooligan Concert Posse is hosting on Western Michigan University’s campus at 1003 Trimpe in the Multicultural Center with Rye N Clover, Lion Lore, and Statia.
Rye N Clover hails from Ithaca, New York with banjo in hand. As an avid environmentalist, this musician plays to the tune of the woods and the earth, and speaks of a joy that surfaces with the sunrise.

Lion Lore is a new folky//rocky outfit from Grand Rapids. My(Nola’s) twin sister, my brother-in-law, and their two friends Rob and Holly have created quite the little family band. Think of a melodic version of Band of Horses with a bit more of a bite. First show in Kalamazoo!
Here is a link to a cutesy acoustic video of theirs that they made:

Statia, despite not having played many shows quite yet, have a promising outfit of fine gentlemen (all who of which are already in several different bands). With a member on the keys and Alex Young singing, they can have harder musical tones but strong, controlled vocals that are too on point to miss. Proggy goodness.

The Kalamazooligan Concert Posse is a group on Western’s campus that helps promote shows to the campus and Kalamazoo community, making them accessible to all-ages crowds as well as providing a safe space for show-goers.
The show is free for WMU students and $3 for non-students.
The show is at 7pm – know what that means? You could hang out on campus, support new-show goers and then go to one of the other million shows happening that night afterwards.
Maybe see you there?
Louie’s has been making a solid effort to put on an array of sounds, creating a venue where if you just wait, there’s bound to be something that grabs your attention and gets your toes a-tapping, your heart thumping, your mind wheeling, or your lungs singing.
This Thursday, one can enjoy a packed evening of danceable oddities, a fun treat that’ll appeal to Kalamazoo’s sense of the experimental, coupled with Kalamazoo’s need to groove.
SILENT LIONS, traveling from Toledo, OH, are a heavy fuzzed out dance rock onslaught. Their pairing of heavy distorted bass with echoed, distant vocal stylings creates a compelling, cool sound for all two of your ears.
PINK LIGHTING made their first Kalamazoo appearance back in April at Milhouse’s drag party, and if you weren’t there, now is your chance to catch one hell of a live performance. Disco beats meet warped garage punk – all surrounding everyone’s favorite oddball instrument, the accordion.
Finally, Grand Rapids group FILMLOOM will be there with lush, percussion filled tunes to titillate the senses.
This show stats at 9 and has a 5 dollar suggested donation. All artists are from out of town so I double that suggestion.
If none of these things are up your alley, and you prefer the more rough, tough, gruff, gritty, yelly, riotious types, local basement acoustic duo Lincoln County War will be making an appearance this same night at Bell’s with Grand Rapids irish rock band The Waxies. This show is also 5 dollars.
Dude!
HERMIT THRUSHES
from the corners of the mind, a sonic pop anomaly, coming back to kalamazoo for the first time in over a year!

FORGET THE TIMES
local cacophony with phasers set to confuse, a shape constantly shifting
http://forgetthetimes.bandcamp.com/
ANYBODY BUT THE COPS
stops on a dime, gives you nine cents change

Show starts at 9PM, you know where Rupert’s is. Get there before the beer runs out!

It’s starting to get cold, so lets get cheery and listen to folk!
Tim Tapper
https://soundcloud.com/tim-tapper
This music has a vast musical range to accompany beautiful lyrics with a major undertone of activism. Songs like, “Temporary Place”, “Open Mouth, Insert Foot,” keep you begging for more. This music will surely tug on your goddamn heartstrings.
Alex Young
Electric and technical, let’s follow Alex Young through his dreamy guitar licks and poetic voice. His lyrics are have are almost transcendentalist in the sense that you know what he’s saying, but it can mean so much more.
Alex Kostka
http://alexkostkamusic.bandcamp.com/
Let’s all band together then sing and sway to the music by Alex Kostka. His songs will keep you thinking and will linger in your mind long after they’re over.
Neil Shah
Have some fun listening to and being around a really awesome guy!
Amazingness is happening at House Of Cards tonight starting at 8.
Also, if this show isn’t enough fantastic folk for ya, there’s another show at Ruperts featuring Wood Spider, La Ruche, and Maray Fuego.
