Rock n’ Roll Basement Show @The Forbidden Zone Tomorrow Night! (5/23)

If you’re looking to blow some steam, this is your chance. Three touring bands of all flavors are making their way out to the Zone, and I for one, couldn’t be more excited!

Human Skull (Danceable Punk Rock from Ann Arbor) Metro Detroit posted a quick read about them earlier this month

Ping Pong (Psych Garage Punk from Ann Arbor) This recently released full length is just about as interesting as their album cover

The Neffs (Psych Folk Rock from Pittsburg) The Neffs add a nice and warm, southern flare to their performance as they let their hearts out. In other words, good ol’ punk rock that I’m sure you’ll enjoy

Polychrome Violence (local punk rock) from around the block

Doors are at 9:00

please bring donations for the touring bands!

Let’s make this a reminder for why the music has yet to die

No Fun House having no fun.

Hey all,

So on Monday the 11th, No Fun House (a show-house here in town since 2010!) experienced one of those tragedies that nobody ever thinks will happen to them. A fire started in the house and many of the inhabitants – all show-goers, supporters, performers, and even a founding member of this very website – lost not only their home in the short-term, but also a huge portion of their belongings.

This is an unprecedented post, but I feel that it is completely warranted given the nature of this tremendous adversity.

Please consider donating to this gofundme page and helping out a group of people who have worked hard and supported the Kalamazoo music community by performing, booking, and even hosting shows in their home.

Thanks y’all,

Punk Rock Saturday 9:00 p.m. @The Forbidden Zone

We’re bringing the energy yet again to The Forbidden Zone. So if you’re in the mood to let out some steam (within reasonable boundaries), or watch said steam be let out, you should swing by our red brick house! With entertainment provided by…

Obscene Color – AKA The White Stripes with their own young, angsty personal touch

Third Coast – Upcoming local punk band that’ll keep you moving and talking well after their set ends

The Holy Alimonies (Chicago) – Garage country pop which will sooth all tension while maintaining the sway

Mobile users, have we got a deal for you!

So the mobile version of this site doesn’t show the sidebar, and we know that’s what most people check when they hit this site up up (heck, that’s what we check every time we hit this site up). We have a solution.

A ways back, we implemented a page called ‘shows’ which was a carbon-copy of the sidebar until everyone forgot to update it. Well no longer! The ‘shows’ page will be updated minimum once a week, and at present there’s so much stuff booked out on it, there shouldn’t be any trouble in missing shows that way.

To access this page on your mobile browser, just go to https://ditkalamazoo.com/shows/ , or you can touch the dropdown menu on the ditkalamazoo.com main page (aptly titled ‘menu’), and touch the ‘shows’ option from there.

Hope this is helpful!

BACK IN THE SADDLE

Hello everyone!

DIT(K) is right now the slowest it’s ever been. We’re truly sorry and will be remedying  that ASAP.

There will be a meeting 6pm tonight at No Fun House to discuss upcoming shows, booking and content for the blog. If yr interested in getting involved and helping improve the Kalamazoo music community, by all means come join us!

STAY EXCITED

Fat Guy House Tonight, Reptilian Added to Lineup

Ann Arbor’s 2194 returns tonight to play the Fat Guy House with Graders, the new project of Kalamazoo’s favorite prodigal son Kyle Thornhill (of Ish and Artwork and formerly of H.O.M.E.S). As a last minute addition, the Reptilian has been added to the bill due to a cancellation.

If you don’t have plans, come check it out. Show starts around 9PM and the house asks that you bring some money to donate to the out-of-towners.

A Special thanks to Ty Emrick for the nice pics of Maritime that were posted to the DIT Flickr feed. In our excitement to get them on the site, we forgot to give due credit, so here it is. Thanks Ty!

War Dogs of the Pacific CD Release at the Strutt

Though Kalamazoo Teen Heartthrobs War Dogs of the Pacific may be on an indefinite hiatus due to higher learning issues, they return to release their long awaited album, Publish or Perish, at a free show at the Strutt tonight. They’re joined by local friends The Reptilian, Ackley Kid, and Pan.

Venue-finder!

A new page has been added to the blog! the ‘Where You At?’ Page has a short-but-growing list of venues and their locations (right down to a Google Map). This only includes ‘public’ venues though.

Information concerning ‘Private’ venues such as No Fun House or the Ant Hill is still available by simply asking someone who knows about them. Alternatively, you can hit us with an Email at ditkalamazoo@gmail.com, and we’d be more than happy to tell you all about it.

That being said, there are some pretty wicked shows tonight. It sort of begs the question: What are you doing on your computer?

DIT Kalamazoo is Relocating!

In an effort to better serve our community, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to pack up and slide over to WordPress – a site that offers a bit simpler usability and a longer list of tools than our previous digital location. Additionally, we’ll be gearing this site more towards the folks that are looking for shows to see, and less for the folks that are booking the shows.

As always, if you’d like to book a show somewhere in Kalamazoo through us, let us know through our still very functional email: ditkalamazoo (at) gmail (dot) com.
