Category Archives: Upcoming shows!

When, where, who, and how much. The four questions that everyone really wants answered in life.

6/2 — Astro Bats, Bat Cave, Sista Mista @ Louie’s

So this will be the second time I’ve written about Bat Cave without having seen them. I’m still really psyched to actually getting around to going to one of their shows, though. To reiterate: Batcave is Kzoo’s own: Matt Maverick, Andrew Mansberger, Isaac Lowery, and Matt Wood from such bands/acts as The Megaphones, Frank Fuzz, Tiny Rhythm, Philly Crawlers, respectively. Apparently they play some strange dance-y tunes. Based on their former bands alone, they are not an act to miss.

Astro Bats, from Grand Rapids, tag themselves as “psych”, “jazz and improv”, and “experimental”.

And lastly, Sista Mista.

Doors are at 8, show at 9. Ages 18+ $5. S’ya there.

SHITLIST/PARASITIC TWINS/SEX BUNKER/BROWN COW

June 1 at Slaughter House, Ft. Wayne and Chicago are coming to destroy.

From Ft. Wayne:

Shitlist is loud, sludgy, fast and everything punk in between. They even have some hip hop on the album, although I don’t if it happens live…

http://shitlist.bandcamp.com/

Parasitic Twins is an 80s style punk band in the vein of Black Flag. Not a reinvention of the wheel by any means but definitely worth checking out.

From Chicago:

Sex Bunker. Sludgy garage punk with a noise and psych aspect. Fits right in with the Slaughter House crowd and other heavy bands for the night.
(Have fun watching this one, sound quality is great though!)

The local for the night is Brown Cow. Out of place on this show but gooood stuff. Chilled folk rock to take you away.

This starts AT 9!!! You got booze, you got bux for the bandzzzzzz. I personally will be out of town this night and am bummed I’m missing it, please go rock yo’ faces off for me!!

5/28 – Peter Cook, Dickinson & Hartman, C.J. Boyd @ No Fun House 7pm

Guess who?!
None other than C.J. Boyd is touring through and No Fun House is getting down to throw another quiet storm!

Performances by…

Peter Cook (Local Acoustic)
-You might have seen him shredding on his green Strat., as the front man of psychedelic pop band The Philly Crawlers a while back, or as a part of Forget the Times. Either way, you’ve seen him, and you’ll know when you do once more.

Dickinson (emotional & melodic folk) & Hartman (ambient folk. Also reference Forget The Times)
-After speculating for quite some time now, Fiona Dickinson and Sean Hartman finally decided to come together and collaborate musically to create a final product bound to be amazing! The combination of Dickinson and Hartman alone will definitely be something you won’t want to miss.

The Almanac Shouters / Lincoln County War / George Costanza @ The Ant Hill 5.25

This Friday, a show that needs no introduction.

Local living room legends The Almanac Shouters are calling off their hiatus for one night only. Nola, a founding member of the group, plans to move from town at the end of this month. The Shouters haven’t said it will be their final reunion show, but it very well could be. If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of catching their incredible, energetic live show in the past, treat yourself and make it out to this show.

George Costanza, who will be kicking off their first tour at this show, was just a featured artist in a recent DITKalamazoo post, therefore needs no further description, but here’s a video (thanks to neobeatglory for the footage).

Lincoln County War will also be folking up the night with great stories and belted vocals. Here’s some footage of them performing at Victory House, courtesy of alexgilbert247.

This event is being hosted at The Ant Hill in the Vine Street Neighborhood this Friday and begins at 9:00pm. For more information, you can consult the Facebook event page.

Keir Neuringer / Saxquatch / Joshualien @ Victory House 5.14

Victory House presents experimental tunes for your listening pleasure!

Keir Neuringer previously played in Kalamazoo at Milhouse last winter, and is gracing us with his presence again. Keir is a multi-instrumentalist experimental composer, making strange and beautiful works, often based in Saxophone. His performance is captivating.

Saxquatch, well known local saxophonist will also be performing, with Matt Wood (of Batcave / Philly Crawlers) on drums. They have never performed together in this manner, so you’ll want to check it out.

Joshualien is a local minimalist electro artist who will make you feel like your in a trance playing an old-school videogame. Or that you want to dance. Or some other emotion you’ve not yet experienced.

The show starts at 9 PM, and will be donation based as Keir is traveling, so please bring a couple dollars if you can.
