Two shows in two days!!

First off, I hope everyone had a good and fun (and crazy) New Year, I know we all did.  I know we haven’t been around for a bit, but we’ll be trying to get back on things staring this week.

Tonight there is an acoustic show happening at the Milhouse, First Name, Last Name Fest I believe. Playing tonight there will be:

Kyle Thomas.
Heading through town, on tour from Ann Arbor. Formerly of 2194, he’s now doing some solo stuff the is pretty good. Hardcore goes emo.

Danny Zillmer and Strings.
On tour with KT from the wonderful Indianapolis.

Tim Tapper.
Longtime Kzoo local musician, formerly of The Number 8.
http://timtapper.bandcamp.com/

Alex Quinlan.
Used to play for The Almanac Shouters, now playing solo. Finger picky folk from right here in town.

And I’ve been hearing around that an old Kalamazoo favorite is back in town and might be showing his face and mabey playing some songs? We’ll have to see.

9pm, bring donations for the touring bands.

And then TOMORROW NIGHT! The first ever Touchdown City show!

Alta (http://alta.bandcamp.com/) and Arizona Wilder (http://arizonawilder.bandcamp.com/ from Milwaukee will be tearing it up in the basement. Local support bands are ACKLEY  KID, GOOD NEWS, and EVERYONE AND THEIR EMPTY CUPS. This one’s gonna be a rager but remember, you got beers, you got bucks. 9pm and donations, check the event for the address.

12/7 – Abbi Rajesekhar returns to No Fun House!

Former Michigan / current Chicago musician Abbi Rajesekhar is on tour again, and making another stop at the No Fun House. Abbi’s music is strong and heartfelt, with a great aesthetic that sticks with you long after she’s done playing. I strongly recommend you check it out.

Also playing is Kalamazoo’s very own (even though we stole him from Traverse City), Cat Peril (Pat Carrol). Scarcely will you find a better, more emotive musician than Pat. A great songwriter, guitar player, and generally awesome dude, Pat Carrol is an asset and boon to the scene for sure. Plus if enough people bug him, he might play an R. Kelly song. Finally, a (now rare) acoustic performance by Kalamazoo’s Birdfingers will also take the stage. Deep voice, tasty guitar work, and songs about things people used to write songs about but don’t write songs about much anymore these days. A great performance for sure.

Doors open at 8 and the music starts shortly thereafter. Bring a little bit of cash for donation for the travelin’ act. Bring some soda or chips or cookies to share if you can manage. See you guys tonight!

Thursday night at Old Dog Tavern

Tomorrow night at Old Dog it kicks off at 9 with Blackjack Mulligan, a newer psych rock band from right here in Kzoo.

Second up in the night is The Philly Crawlers. Influenced by bands such as The Kinks, Captain Beefheart, and Pixies they’re always a feel-good time.

9pm, 5 bucks, 18+

FREE PUNK SHOW MONDAY NIGHT AT THE STRUTT!

Hold onto your hats, this is gonna be a wild one.
11/14, 8pm at The Strutt, FREE FREE FREE!!

CARAVELS are coming through town, on tour all the way from Nevada. From fast and aggressive to emotional and drifting melodies they aren’t something you want to miss. Punk never sounded so good.

ACKLEY KID One of two hometown heroes on this show. Punk beats and circle pits all night, come drink some beer and get rowdy.

THE REPTILIAN Noodle masters of the midwest with a serious edge. These guys have been tearing it up for a few years now, and they have no interest in slowing down. Sing along, jump up and down and stuff.

And some food for thought.
