When, where, who, and how much. The four questions that everyone really wants answered in life.

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY Empire! Empire!, Mountains For Clouds, An Aesthetic Anaesthetic and Analecta @ The Strutt

Get your butt off the couch, stop watching dumb football and get down to the Strutt this Sunday for some rad post rock and emo jamz. Empire! Empire! and Mountains For Clouds are stopping in Kalamazoo on their August tour to meet up with An Aesthetic Anaesthetic from Chicago and local gig stars Analecta.

Empire! Empire! comes from Fenton,MI and play twinkly emo in the vein of Mineral and American Football. With their always revolving cast of band members, Keith and Cathy continue to crank out releases and tour frequently. The happy couple runs a record label called Count Your Lucky Stars out of their home and help many bands in the midwest and all over put out cool releases as well. Mountains For Clouds, who also come from the east side of the mitten, play twinkly jams as well but with a more post rock kinda twist. They remind me a lot of a mathy Appleseed Cast if that tickles your fancy at all.

Also joining the fun is An Aesthetic Anaesthetic from Chicago,IL with their raw post rock sounds. And finally some what local boys, Analecta, will be playing epic post rock that will give you the pee pee shakes. I’ve known and watched these guys play in a handful of different kinds of bands and every time I see them live, it gets me more excited for what these guys are gonna put out next.

Doors at 8:00 and show at 9:00. $5 dollars and all ages. Couldn’t ask for a better Sunday gig. Here is that Facebook thang too.

Also on the bill, (a)Rare Animal; some of Kzoo’s freshest and finest indie-rockers. And lastly, but certainly not leastly, Lincoln County War and Forget the Time’s own Benji Myers rounds out the night with a solo set.

The Reptilian / Dads / Witch Finger’s 1st Show at Victory

Tonight at Victory House there’s going to be one killer show with the line-up to back it up.

DADS is a two-piece coming all the way from New Jersey and providing some noodly, melodic emo/punk awesomeness.

Hometown heroes, Kzoo’s tappy, screamy secret weapon, THE REPTILIAN will be killing it as they always do.

And, lest we forget about the premiere performance of Kalamazoo’s latest and raddest band, WITCH FINGERS,  featuring the combined powers of members of Ackley Kid, Lincoln County War, and The Reptilian. This pop-punk super-group has me more excited about hearing new tunes than I have ever been.

KALMASHOEGAZER 5

Kalamashoegazer is an organization/collective that brings shoegaze/dreampop/twee and C86 influenced groups to Kalamazoo, MI for annual events that celebrate the sub-genre. Kalamashoegazer was started in 2007 by April Morris from the dreampop band, Glowfriends. April and her brother, Mark Morris, guitarist in Glowfriends, work together to put the festival on each year and create events that bring a cross-country community of indie bands and fans together in the name of shoegaze.

The fifth annual Kalamashoegazer will take place on Saturday, August 20th at 3 P.M. at The Strutt for $10. This year’s line-up consists of West Bend, Wisconsin’s Canyons of Static

Brief Candles of Milwaukee, WI

Whales of Chicago, IL

Gospel Gossip from Northfield, MN

28 Degrees Taurus of Allston, MA

Kalamazoo favorites, Glowfriends

Crash City Saints, another of Kalamazoo’s own
Im Only Looking – Crash City Saints

And Akron, Ohio’s  This Is Antarctica will also be performing.

The point and purpose of this event is to bring together friends, fans and bands that are influenced by bands that came out of what was once called “The Scene That Celebrates It’s Self” or the shoegazing genre. Also those interested by C86, twee, dreampop, late 80’s/early 90’s underground, ambient and space rock will want to take notice. So come on out and take part of this awesome tradition of awesome music.

8/17 — Good News/Charles the Osprey/Gates @ Louie’s

Tomorrow night at Louie’s Trophy House offers up a night of complex riffage, soulful sounds and wicked brews.

On the bill will be Kzoo‘s own math-rockers Good News serving up some wicked tunes.

Adding to the tastily complex and deliciously dissonant vibe, our sister-city GR friends in Charles the Osprey will be tearin’ it up with some new material.

To round out the bill, Jersey’s own Gates will be takin’ it down a notch [and just one notch] and giving us a taste of melodic indie soundscape-creating awesomness that’s still in the vein of tappy and experimental. 18+, 5 bones, doors at 8:30. Don’t miss this one, kids.

8/17: Graham Parsons & the Go Rounds at Kalamazoo Public Library
