Here are a few links to some other folks doing their part in Kalamazoo. So now you’re saying to yourself, ‘what is this? a links page? Am I trapped in the future of 2001?’ Well all we can say is old habits die hard.
WIDR (Your Source for Radio Evolution) – The cats at WIDR have been bringing a variety of new, local, and strange music to the public since before most of us got born. On their site you can catch their streaming feed, check out the stuff they played earlier, catch some upcoming events, or just look at all the funny pictures. The best way to experience WIDR, though, is on the airwaves: 89.1 on the FM dial.
DITgrand rapids – Our GR faction of DIT. Together, with a like-minded goal, we’re bringing Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids DIY shows a little bit closer in contact!
Louie’s Trophy House Grille – In the wake of two of Kalamazoo’s most celebrated venues for relatively off-the-wall shows and performances, Louie’s has done it’s part to fill the void left by Kraftbrau and Club Soda closing down. Booking acts that run the gamut from Norwegian experimental jazz to acoustic guitar folk standards, Louie’s is a great place to catch a beer, a burger, and a show.
The Corner Record Shop – Everybody likes a good, free, all-ages show on Sunday evening, and that’s exactly what the Corner Record Shop provides our little burg with every week. In addition to good live acts in a friendly, substance-free environment, the Corner Record Shop has an excellent selection of vinyl, CDs, Cassette tapes, DVDs, and panda figurines (not for sale).
Josh Tabbia – Kalamazoo musician by way of Problems that Fix Themselves, Rotten Wood Moon, and The Grow Fangs, Josh is also a fantasic graphic design specialist. Examples of his work can be found right there on his website, but he also threw together that banner of ours, so if you like that, and you need some graphic art for something (even something as silly as a music blog), Josh is probably your guy.
Kalamazoo IDEA Association – A collected group of individuals that want to see Kalamazoo grow, the IDEA association does it’s part by organizing events, creating public spaces, and overall spreading Kalamazoo’s specific sort of culture. Most pertinently, the IDEA Association, along with the Strutt, puts on the Boiling Pot Music Festival, which is new this year and unique to Kalamazoo.
UFO Dictator – Like old school punk? UFO Dictator does, being an old school punk label and all. They’re also responsible for a lot of really excellent shows around this big little city, including UFO Dictator fest, a festival that gets thrown every year! Keep an eye out for these guys for sure.
