Last Minute Show Going Down at Victory House TONIGHT!

v house flyer

Due to a cancellation, Pittsburgh touring musicians Unraveler, Average Joey, and A Life of Arctic Sounds were nearly stuck with a day off, until the Victory House stepped in and offered up their living room instead.

All three acts are acoustic and will be joined by local giants of acoustic guitar, Tim Tapper and Alex Quinlan. Come on out and show them that playing a show in Kalamazoo, last minute as it may be, will always be a hundred times better than not playing a show at all!

Now that finals are through and the warmer portion of the year is upon us, The Courthouse is ready to party – and you’re all invited.  Tonight, we’ve got three awesome acts heading west to Kzoo from Metro-Detroit.  Plus, Fossil Eyes, a Courthouse favorite, will be closing the show out.

We will be starting a bit late so the HulabaTwo crowd can still catch most of the show.  The doors are still at nine and as always remember a few bucks for the touring bands.

Something For Everyone This Weekend – Saturday, April 20th

For the size of Kalamazoo, there’s quite a range of varied talented musicians who come through or who are from this area. With a bit of exploring of what is available, tracking down the latest house venue or giving your patronage to the bars still doing shows, you are bound to find something you will enjoy. That being said, this Saturday there is no reason to find yourself lacking in live music. With the four shows occurring, you’d be hard-pressed to find something you did not enjoy.

For the house shows:

MILHOUSE will be bringing in two touring acts, OUR LADY (Springfield, IL), and ESTATES (Milwaukee, WI), along with BLANK – long time locals, and RETICULATING SPLINES – familiar faces with a new project. You can expect a varied plate of emo, indierock, slowcore, and technical prowess – all plugged in, yelled, and sometimes featuring cello.

For an entirely different flavor, THE BLACK LODGE brings rock and roll together with hip hop and electronica – a tasty combination – featuring KID DEW & WHY J (Grand Rapids), new project from a duo of mad-scientists BANJOHATER, and DJ PREPOSTEROUS PSEUDONYM will be spinning some LPs. Locals PROCONPRO and EVILDEAUXERZ will be in charge of rocking and rolling.

And from the bars

LOUIE’S TROPHY HOUSE will be doing their showcase of local powerhouse DOUBLE PHELIX. This is not their first, this will not be their last, but it’s always something different. This time around it’s a country/rock/songy sort of affair, but of course it’s never that straightforward with the Phelix crew. LASSO, SACRED STRAYS (Grand Rapids), and SILPHIUM BLOOMS will all be there, each a rare sight in town.

Finally, THE 411 will be hosting the EP release for local rock and destroyers TERROR TERROR… OH MY!, backed up by FLAMINGO NOSEBLEED (Ft. Wayne, IN), and HELTER SKELTER (Grand Rapids), and topped off with DJ’d sets afterwards, it’s guaranteed to be a full night.

As an added bonus, it’s also RECORD STORE DAY! Check out your favorite local record shop and see what kinds of deals/neato exclusives they have going, all before any of the shows.

Check the sidebar or contact the venue for the times these shows will begin. Ask around for the house locations if that’s what you’re into. Treat each other well on this celebratory weekend.

4/19 – Cold Mountain Child, Lincoln County War @ Peace Center

Cold Mountain Child

Ease your mind off of the dreaded finals week and put an end to your semester in style, this Friday (4/19), at HullabaTWO!–a back-to-back folk-musical extravaganza. Featured will be Kalamazoo’s very own Cold Mountain Child and Lincoln County War. This special event will take place downstairs at the Peace Center on WMU main campus. Of local origin, Cold Mountain Child is characterized by its soothing male vocals and ambient guitar sounds, while Lincoln County War features a guitar-violin duo matched with aggressive vocals reminiscent of Jeff Mangum or Tom Waits. Lincoln County War will start the night off tentatively at 6:00pm. Be sure to bring some extra cash for our talented friends.

Give ’em a listen below!

4/17 – Foxmoulder, Coma Regalia, NOHEALTH @ Wayne Manor

foxmoulderTonight’s lineup at Wayne Manor consists of a few of the hardest hitting post-hardcore acts in North America.
Toronto’s Foxmoulder plays dark, heavy and emotional music that is almost impossible not to head bang along to.
http://foxmoulder.bandcamp.com/
Coma Regalia is an intense two-piece hailing from Indiana that you certainly don’t want to miss if you are into powerful tunes.
http://middlemanrecords.bandcamp.com/album/en-sperata
NOHEALTH of Grand Rapids, MI will be providing loud and fast post-hardcore from a galaxy far, far away.
http://nohealth.bandcamp.com/
Doors are at 7:00 PM and donations for the touring acts are highly encouraged.
Also, prior to the show, there is a DIT meeting at 706 Wheaton Ave. that is open to anyone who is interested in joining.
