Alright DIT do-gooders, it’s summer time, and for all of you who are of the sit-back with refreshing beverage in hand type, well we have a show/pot-luck combination on Wednesday, May 9th that you (hopefully) won’t spill your beer at.
In for an all-acoustic set is Jeremy Waun of the Detroit based band Reverend. With a 1,2,3,4 count that never fails, Waun has a down-home nostalgia about his music, with a sound that is about as comfortable and familiar as a creaking rocking-chair on a humdrum summer night.
Neil Shah and Alex Young, of Kalamazoo-based groups Ackley Kid and Pan respectively, will also be performing acoustic sets that will differ from their more rambunctious main projects. Alex Young said he has “a few new songs written up” specifically for this acoustic set and “a buncha covers” ready.
Food cooks up at 7:00 p.m. at No Fun House, with music starting around 8:00 p.m. It’s FREE as usual, and be sure to bring some delicious food and donations for the pot-luck and touring artist. Non-delicious donations will also be accepted.
A friendly reminder for you to not miss this Tuesday night! Milhouse will be hosting another rad living room show that will mark the start of Kalamazoo’s own noise rockers Forget The Times’ 25-day May tour with Br’er, Jeremy Ruggles and his Echo Chamber Family Band, and jazzy punk newcomers Anybody But the Cops (performing their very first show).
Curious about what you’ll be experiencing? Check out Alpha Couple on their tumblr. I personally am really excited to see these guys play. Their version of low-fi acoustic noise is tender and sweet with an undercurrent of cacophonous elements that give their recordings a well-rounded, unique sound.
The show starts at 8p, and is donation based. If you feel so inclined, please bring a couple of bucks to support the bands. Alpha Couple and Forget the Times both need cash for their journeys.
What are you doing tonight? Studying? Fine, but take a break and get yourself to the Fat Guy House to experience Brothers in all their glory FOR THE LAST TIME. EVER.
I don’t think I need to explain myself further.
Help say goodbye to an era of greatness with Call It Quits outta Lansing and local heart throbs Ackley Kid. IT’S GONNA BE OFF THE CHAIN. Certainly not an evening to miss!

8 p.m. / you got beerz you got buckz
And as always… Respect the house, Respect the bands, Respect yerself!
April brings the return not only of warmer weather, but also of our dear friends The Reptilian who are returning with a couple of special friends. Milhouse’s basement will be opening up for the first time to host this show since the legendary Deerblood House stopped hosting shows a couple of years ago. Here’s a preview of what you’ll be hearing.

DADS: Sad that Snowing are no longer around? (provided you know who they are) Have no fear, DADS might be able to relieve some of those awful feelings. With just a guitar, a set of drums, and some honest lyrics, DADS will bring Kalamazoo their version of twinkly emo from New Brunswick, NJ. These dads will be a hell of a lot more fun than your dad could ever hope to be. Pinky promise.
You Me & Us: These guys and gal bring infectious garage surf pop from their home in SoCal. Similar to Best Coast and Girls, but all that much sweeter (with, perhaps, a tinge of bitterness), you’ll find yourself imagining long walks on sunny beaches, sand between your toes, and eating bubblegum ice cream in a sugar cone. Or at least, that was my first thought. Summer may still be a couple of months away, but I’m sure you’ll be just as warm watching this band play live.
Chances are if you’re reading this article, you already know who The Reptilian is. Really, they need no introduction. Just in case you don’t though, why not watch this video?
And lastly, but surely not least, the gods of pop punk, Blink-182 Tribute have returned for an encore of some sick tunes from the band we all love to hate and hate to love (or just plain love). Be prepared for sing-alongs, whether you feel like it or not.
Please, please, please bring cash for the donation jar. Gas is around $4 a gallon these days. Help these guys move forward! The show starts at 9. See you there!
Big things are happening in Kzoo, folks. Big things done by our own talented and creative community! This Friday, one new-ish act will be playing at the Fireplace Club with two seasoned music scene vets.
Firstly: I’ve been hearing nothing but rave reviews about Bat Cave. Kzoo’s own Matt Maier, Matt Wood, Isaac Lowery, among others, have collaborated to bring you some dancy tunes. I haven’t heard them yet myself, but I’m really really stoked to see them at this show.
And last, but not least, Kyle Landstra, who creates the most thick ambient soundscapes will be chillin’ us out. http://kylelandstra.bandcamp.com/
SO after you’ve had your fill of Record Store day [DO make sure to stop by Corner Record Shop and check out their sweet selection!], come kick it at J-Rugg’s house at about 9pm. S’ya there.
Publicly documented as Michigan’s loudest band, Doom Stoners Beast In the Field return to Kalamazoo on Wednesday at Louie’s Trophy Bar in what promises to be a noise violating, tinnitus-inducing night to remember. They come supported by Grand Rapids ambient metal outfit sleepeater, and Kzoo newcomers US Bearforce, which features members of Ackley Kid, Lincoln County War, The Almanac Shouters, and The Mushmen. Here’s a couple of videos of what you can expect:
The show starts at 9p and is $5 and 18+. It will guarantee to leave you with broken eardrums and a smile on your face. Ouch.
