As part of this whole Kalamazoo Beer Week, heart-breakers Cold Mountain Child and Northern-boy crooner Pat Carroll will be singin y’all some songs all evening at The Globe. And to top it all off, you could have your very own pint of a delicious Microbrew for a mere $2.25!
What could be more special than an evening with love songs from the mountain tops and a finely-crafted Poet Stout? Nothing. It’s perfect.
So come on down and watch some cheerful boys play some sad songs! There may even be some R. kelly, if you’re lucky…
Ah, Friday the 13th. What else will you be doing on such a momentous day besides fearing for the world to end and throwing garlic at every passerby wearing black? Why, going to TWO SHOWS, of course! But…they’re at the same time!? Split yourself in two and go to ’em both!
First, MINUTES will be throwing a record release party with plaid-shirted, baseball cap-donning Aaron Young and His Nightjars and the freshh-faced Flatbeard at the Strutt. Afterword, stick around and boogie down with DJ Special G…

First off, I hope everyone had a good and fun (and crazy) New Year, I know we all did. I know we haven’t been around for a bit, but we’ll be trying to get back on things staring this week.
Tonight there is an acoustic show happening at the Milhouse, First Name, Last Name Fest I believe. Playing tonight there will be:
Alex Quinlan.
Used to play for The Almanac Shouters, now playing solo. Finger picky folk from right here in town. http://alexquinlan.bandcamp.com/
And I’ve been hearing around that an old Kalamazoo favorite is back in town and might be showing his face and mabey playing some songs? We’ll have to see.
Weekend Warriors II, a documentary on music local to Michigan and South Bend, IN, was made available last week via CHUNKmedia. The DVD features performances from 33 local bands and interviews with 16 of those bands, as well as interviews with 2 Kalamazoo house venues (The Ant Hill and No Fun House).
Bands from the Kalamazoo area shown are:
Ackley Kid, Arson Party, Forget The Times, Ghosts of the Great Lakes, Interocitor, Outrun The Sunlight, The Penguin Collector, Please Promise, Protected Left, The Reptilian, Their Teeth Will Be Of Lions, Three Mile Island, and Winterus.
Bands from outside of Kalamazoo are:
analecta, Bars of Gold, Brothers, Chanical Fields, Charles The Osprey, Chin Up!, Discerned, Dr. Device, From The Ropes, Get Home Safe, I’m William Cutting, Infinite Design, Jowls, La Dispute, Sleepeater, Tall Tales, TimeLapse, Traitor, We The Sophists, William Bonney.
Bands featured in the documentary can contact Lisa Bridenstine on facebook or lbridenstine@gmail.com for a copy of the DVD.
Others who wish to purchase a DVD can get them at chunkmedia.bigcartel.com, contact Lisa Bridenstine to meet in the Kalamazoo area to avoid shipping fees, or from one of the following bands at shows in the near future: analecta, Charles The Osprey, Chin Up!, Infinite Design, The Penguin Collector, The Reptilian, Sleepeater, Traitor.
Former Michigan / current Chicago musician Abbi Rajesekhar is on tour again, and making another stop at the No Fun House. Abbi’s music is strong and heartfelt, with a great aesthetic that sticks with you long after she’s done playing. I strongly recommend you check it out.
Also playing is Kalamazoo’s very own (even though we stole him from Traverse City), Cat Peril (Pat Carrol). Scarcely will you find a better, more emotive musician than Pat. A great songwriter, guitar player, and generally awesome dude, Pat Carrol is an asset and boon to the scene for sure. Plus if enough people bug him, he might play an R. Kelly song. Finally, a (now rare) acoustic performance by Kalamazoo’s Birdfingers will also take the stage. Deep voice, tasty guitar work, and songs about things people used to write songs about but don’t write songs about much anymore these days. A great performance for sure.
Doors open at 8 and the music starts shortly thereafter. Bring a little bit of cash for donation for the travelin’ act. Bring some soda or chips or cookies to share if you can manage. See you guys tonight!
DIT(K) is right now the slowest it’s ever been. We’re truly sorry and will be remedying that ASAP.
There will be a meeting 6pm tonight at No Fun House to discuss upcoming shows, booking and content for the blog. If yr interested in getting involved and helping improve the Kalamazoo music community, by all means come join us!
