Tours/Reunions/Celebrations – Anybody But The Cops (tape release + tour kickoff) | The Gray Beast | Another One | Guppy – Milhouse – 4.5

This show is too good to waste a bunch of words on, so I’m going to keep it brief. On this day of days, this springtime Sunday, some Milhouse music will be happening.

15.04.05Local queerdo/weirdo band ANYBODY BUT THE COPS will be releasing their first set of recordings that sound subjectively better than any of their other recordings, as well as preparing for a 2 week long tour. Described as “Post-Jazz Punk for the Pre-Reset World” and “musical garbage disposals” ABTC are guaranteeing you something along the lines of 20 minutes of music and hopefully minimal un-mic’d banter. The new release is coming out on ALREADY DEAD TAPES. Check it out! Or buy it at this show to save on shipping.

THE GRAY BEAST are dancy, catchy, wordy fellas from Marquette, MI, fronted by the profound and profane genius Sycamore Smith. Having last seen them open for Child Bite, you can be sure that this band kicks it. They are on tour and they have a demo to sell ya, so don’t be scared to check it out.

ANOTHER ONE are a pop-punk band without the bullshit. They are here to present you a hook once instead of three times because that sort of repetition is time that could be spent playing two more songs. So that’s what they do. Old friends out of Grand Rapids that have not yet played Kalamazoo, so give them a warm welcome.

GUPPY are equal parts excellent songwriting/song structure and heavy chaotic noise. It blends together in the most perfect way. The band was on a hiatus for a bit, but now with Jose from Anybody But The Cops on bass, their back at it. Check the hype

DONATE TO THE OUTTA TOWNERS AND TO THE TOURS. BE EXCELLENT. BE THERE RIGHT AT 9:00 TO SEE GUPPY KICK IT OFF. TREAT YOUR FRIENDS WELL AND MAKE NEW FRIENDS. BE MINDFUL OF THOSE AROUND YOU. WOMEN AND QUEERZ TO THE FRONT FOREVER.

Milhouse Show – Punk In All It’s Infinite Derivative Glory – ED SCHRADER’S MUSIC BEAT | DESIRING DEAD FLESH | ANYBODY BUT THE COPS | SEVENTEEN AGAIN – 2.27

img090Punk is an endless scrawling abyss of sounds, concepts, theories, notions. Some things are to be expected, and others may shift your paradigm of what is to be considered.

This show is going to bring a lot of variety to the table, but what you can count on in common among all is genuine ferocity. Whether simplistic or complex, whether goofy or sincere to the core, it’s all done with captivating intensity – and if that’s your dig then you’re going to love this.

ED SCHRADER’S MUSIC BEAT is generally two-band sonic onslaught, paying homage to past innovators in the proto-punk as well as no-wave experimentations, while bringing something entirely new to the table. Ed Schrader has said in interviews that, though having had the opportunity to tour with some great projects, his favorite shows are the smaller, stranger, more focused shows – and Kalamazoo knows how to bring that, so lets see if we can make that happen.

DESIRING DEAD FLESH are a long-standing staple of Michigan punk. They are guaranteed to make you feel a certain youthful nostalgia – either because you saw this band back when you were still wearing zipper pants and an all-too-crisp leather jacket with safety pinned patches, or because you will see these young kids totally shredding for the first time and remember how you first got into this crazy punk world. Be ready to let go of yourself for a bit and just have fun, it’ll be hard not to.

SEVENTEEN AGAIN are making their return to Kalamazoo basements and a return to your hearts, now featuring Brok Leshman on bass and featuring tons of new songs to try out on you. Seventeen Again remain the best under 20 minutes in Kalamazoo. They’re playing first so don’t miss ’em.

TONIGHT! – SAXSQUATCH’S PSYCHEDELIC FREAKOUT @ SATELLITE RECORDS

We’re really excited about this one! There is a lot of potential with this event and we can’t wait to see where it goes!

The Saxsquatch Psychedelic Freakout is a brand new open jam session hosted by Satellite Records every 2nd and last Wednesday. The twist is that the event focuses on experimental music of all genres. Mr Saxsquatch will be providing a different house band every night and anyone is welcome to sit in and get weird. All instruments, ages and skill levels are welcome!

We believe that good music has no limitation. We want to see people getting excited about exploring and trying new things! Satellite Records is one of the few true All Ages safe space venues in town. Everyone is welcome here. Let’s make some new friends and build a stronger Kalamazoo Arts Community!

For the inaugural Freakout tonight, the Saxsquatch will be joined by local heavyweights Jose Rincones (Anybody But The Cops, Surprise Attack, Rise Into Ruin) and Russell Wagner (The Reptilian, Forget The Times, Cape & Cowl). The three of them will be setting up a variety of instruments ready to steer the evening into uncharted territory.

Feel free to bring any instrument you’d like! There will be several house amps + the PA on hand if you require extra volume. Don’t want to jam but still want to attend? Please do! There’s no pressure to play and it’s always fun to browse records while listening to live music.

The event starts at 8pm and goes to 10pm (or whenever the people stop playing).
There is no cover, but we’ll have a donation box out if yr feeling generous.
Please, no alcohol / drugs / jerks (let’s keep it a safe space!).
Register will be open all night if you wanna buy anything.

Fast And Angular Anxiety Music – Forget the Times, U SCO (Oregon), Anybody But The Cops – 8.29 – Milhouse

This Friday at Milhouse, expect to hear some loud, fast, experimental and instrumental kaseygnar – from near and far.

U SCO, traveling all the way from Portland, Oregon, are making their first trip to Michigan, though one member previously played Milhouse in the band Duck, Little Brother, Duck! If you are a fan of Hella, Spelling Bee, or any of those other technically precise yet overwhelmingly chaotic bands, it is imperative that you check this band out. They have just released a new album, Treffpunkt, which they will have on tour.

if U SCO  was not enough, local leaders in West Michigan noise music, FORGET THE TIMES will be making their first Milhouse appearance of 2014. If you’re unfamiliar, you’ll more or less have to check it out live because this improv collective is a different deal every time.

Finally, the band that is essentially Milhouse’s house band for angular bullshit punk, ANYBODY BUT THE COPS will also be making an appearance. A grab bag of highly planned music that sounds like a bunch of mistakes in a row, or 30something songs played as a medly. Expect a new track if you can find it!

THIS SHOW STARTS AT 9:00. THIS SHOW ALSO IS DONATION BASED WHICH MEANS BRING SOME ¢A$H DOLLARS. THIS SHOW SUPPORTS NO JERKS AND WISHES FOR THE DISBANDING OF THE JERK RULING CLASS. BE EXCELLENT.

Punk//Punk//Queer//Punk//Punk – Bespin – 7.8

Like most or all of the songs you will hear if you attend this show, this post will be short and to the point.

MARINE CORPSE are a hardcore band out of Bloomington, IN, making their second appearance in Kalamazoo. Loud, fast, angry, and just the best people. They get rave reviews so if this seems like you’re thing you’re probably going to love it.

JANE IRE also came to Kalamazoo for Marine Corpse’s last trip, and are from Cleveland, OH. I cannot find recordings, but word on the street is their queer hardcore.

DICYCLE are Grand Rapids grind. Enough said.

ANYBODY BUT THE COPS are your friendly neighborhood trash compactor of punk and related sounds.

DONATE TO THE TOURING BANDS, FOR REAL. SHOW AT 9:00.

Local Punks On The Move – No Bails, Anybody But The Cops Tours Kickoff + More – Milhouse – 6.5

Kalamazoo has become notable for being a go-to spot for DIY touring bands. Houses are packed, people are nice, the couches are bedbug free, and Michigan has limited poisonous creatures – all good news for the band on the go.

For all the hard work Kalamazoo does to make this town a good time for bands that come here, the amount of locals that really get out there and travel sometimes seems small. that’s why No Bails and Anybody But The Cops, embarking on two tours on the same day, is a notable happenstance.

NO BAILS are a long time West Michigan force of garage rock and sloppy punk, a key band associated with UFO Dictator, the mysterious local label responsible for bringing you all that is good in garage punk sounds once a year. No Bails are playing for the first time at Milhouse, and then taking off on a tour promoting their new new new new new record Epyx Shredder

ANYBODY BUT THE COPS are the scattered noise punk group that has played Milhouse more than anyone of that description. After 2.5 years and 3 drummers, they are going on their first tour. They cannot stop drawing traffic pylons.

This show is mainly to raise up some funds to begin these two tours, and to kick things off on the right foot. In order to do that, there’s even more!

If we’re trying to run the gamut of Kalamazoo punk in one small show, that means including a brand new band. TALVISOTA will be playing their second show ever. They are a two piece, because nobody really likes bass anyway, and they are nervous so show up on time and put their minds at ease.

Also on-the-spot painting will be had by friends of No Bails Michael Bailey.

Donate. Show starts at 9:00. Respect the house, friends new and old, and yourself. Be kind, rewind.

Gnar Of A Profound And Varied Kind – CHILD BITE, GRAY BEAST, FROSTBITER, ANYBODY BUT THE COPS – 4.17

THIS SHOW IS TOO GOOD TO SPEND TOO MUCH TIME TALKING ABOUT IT.

cutting to the chase

CHILD BITE are the gnarliest, noisiest punk band out of Detroit. They last played Kalamazoo Halloween 2012 and are looking forward to gracing us with their presence once more.

THE GRAY BEAST is the full band project of wordy and wild genius Sycamore Smith out of Marquette, MI.

FROSTBITER is Matt the masked bat Maverick in whatever form he feels like. The set is promised to be nothing like FROSTBITER. If you’ve never seen FROSTBITER, then I have no idea what to tell you.

ANYBODY BUT THE COPS have either written a few songs with many changes, or are playing at least 28 different tracks for you, all about 5 seconds long. Supposedly this is a punk band.

THIS SHOW IS AT LOUIE’S. THERE’LL BE DEAD ANIMALS LEERING AT YOU WHILE YOU DONATE 5 DOLLARS. 8 PM IS DOORS. BE THERE, BE SQUARE, BE EXCELLENT, BE 18 AND UP.

Loud Heavy Punk By Way Of Canada, Ohio, Wisconsin and Here – Milhouse – 3.8

Kalamazoo, forever splitting at the seams with music, is unruly almost every day of the week. Saturdays are usually the most chaotic, as that’s when the most band requests come in and the most shows are able to be set up. Sometimes, bands that fit perfectly together will all want the same day, though they have nothing to do with each other. Sometimes, you’ve just got to have three touring bands play at one show. With there, Saturday March 8th is filled to the brim with hard hitting punk, post hardcore, distortion and feedback.

GREYS coming all the way from Toronto, Ontario are a loud rock band encompasing well-melded aspects of punk energy and passion with a subtle catchy appeal. Personally one of the best live shows I witnessed last year.

DEADSET from Milwaukee are a new band featuring old friends from ALTA. Heavy hardcore and metal, brought to you by the experts in our Wisconsin sister city.

STELLA of Columbus, Ohio bring their own brand of noiserock and post punk that’s weird enough to get you interested, heavy enough to keep you listening.

PLUS LOCALS BODIES (A new screamo two piece featuring some of the swellest folks you ever did meet) and ANYBODY BUT THE COPS (local favorite disaster punk band without microphones)

STARTING AT 8:00 PM. THREE BANDS ON THREE TOURS DONATE DONATE DONATE. RESPECT THE HOUSE AND BE GENERALLY EXCELLENT.
