4/23 – The New Diet // Kal Marks // Boring People // Blank

Come on down to the Milhouse on Wednesday April 23rd ’round 9:00 PM with a few dollars for a responsibly rip-roarin’ time.

The New Diet from Chicago is simultaneously chill and loud with excellently written songs that make you feel all the feelings you need to feel.

Kal Marks from Boston shares a record label with some other quality bands we’ve had pass through our humble town, including Speedy Ortiz and Krill.

Kalamazoo locals Boring People and Blank will be playing as well.

Good times will be had. Bring those $$$ billz for those touring acts and remember:

Respect the house, respect each other!

MINUTES + More! – KCAC Benefit Show – 411 Club – 4.19.14

Though Kalamazoo is packed full of good bands of all sorts and sounds, there are a few key names that ring ubiquitous with the town – MINUTES, the four piece post-punk / rock and roll outfit, is definitely one of those names. Though over the last couple of years their live performances have been sporadic, the buzz around the band remains. Not only that, but they were able to throw together an incredible album at the end of last year.

Because of the occasional nature of their shows, consider this show an LP release for their 2nd full length ROLAND.

BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!

MINUTES are bringing a few out of town friends to share with all of you. THE RUTABEGA out of South Bend and STOMATOPOD of Chicago will be performing and seeing what all the big fuss is about Kalamazoo. Plus local libraries of indie rock BORING PEOPLE will kick the night off.

And if this show didn’t seem enough like an event in and off itself, it is sponsored by THE CORNER RECORD SHOP as per RECORD STORE DAY.

But even more, still! Some of the buddies from MINUTES and other folks in the music and arts community of Kalamazoo are working diligently on creating an all ages, affordable and accessible all ages art space in Kalamazoo (known as the KCAC or Kalamazoo Collective Arts Center). They are currently in the fundraising stages and THIS SHOW IS ONE OF THOSE FUNDRAISERS. So please pay 5 at the door, or pay more! Or if you live in the modern age of digital money, you can donate at a somewhat later date directly on the indiegogo site.

If you want more information about the KCAC, please go to thekcac.org.

Doors at 8, show at 9. Donate if you know what’s good.

Agitated Guitar Music Showcase @ Milhouse 7.12

Although Milhouse has had a few returning touring acts, Speedy Ortiz will be the first to return three times in just about a years time! Although this act has been getting some attention from major publications, they’re still attempting to run their tour circuit through some favorite DIY spaces – Kalamazoo included.

SPEEDY ORTIZ are on tour to promote their new album, Major Arcana, which came out July 9th. The four piece band has a huge sound, with heavy drums and spiraling/strange guitar lines, all matched with unbeatable catchy hooks.

Also performing will be locals CRASH CITY SAINTS, the local longtime running shoegaze band featuring a changing line up and evolving sound, who first brought Speedy Ortiz to Kalamazoo. SHARK BEACH the brand-spankin’-patent-pending new band featuring a few of those buddies from MINUTES will be playing their first set. And finally, local hit makers and heart breakers BORING PEOPLE will knock your socks off with delightful bummer tracks as they always promise to do.

If you like things loud, weird, and stuck in your head for days, this is the show for you.

Please bring donation for the touring act. Please respect everyone at the house. Be kind, rewind. THIS SHOW IS STARTING EARLY. We’re kicking things off at 7:30! The reason for this is that once this is done, you can get TWICE AS MUCH ROCK by going to Wayne Manor to see Jake Simmons & The Little Ghosts, The Island of Misfit Toys (Chicago, IL), The Dead Records (Fort Wayne, IN), and Saxquatch & The Bridge Band.

Rockin’ Rockin’ Record Store 5.21 9:30PM

The Corner Record Shop is hosting an indie rock extravaganza, featuring four solid acts, three of which are some outta towners.

GRASS IS GREEN are an angular, energy-filled punk influenced force from Boston. Heavy sounds with catchy hooks that create a want to dance and break stuff simultaneously (do not break or damage the record store’s merchandise)

OVLOV are a grungy pop wall of lush guitars also coming out of the east coast. They have an energy that makes you wish they were your favorite local band to sing all the words along with.

RADIATOR HOSPITAL are a former Grand Rapids now Current Philly band based around songwriter Sam Cook-Parrot. Ranging from high-energy powerpop full band performances, to solo acoustic bummerpop renditions, and spawning from lo-fi bedroom recordings, Sam covers all bases of truly excellent pop music.

BORING PEOPLE are local new sensation, bringing a full band take to a local songwriter’s long time bedroom recording project. If Ovlov are the band you wish were your local favorites, Boring People are sure to become near and dear to your heart.

This show starts at 9:30! Pring money for the touring folks, and bring money to buy records because the register will still be open. Bring your own beer if that’s what you require. Bring your lovely positive self and all your buddies.
