March 5th – Get With The Loudness – Satellite Records / Bell’s Brewery

As usual, there’s too much going on in Kalamazoo, and barely enough time. But you can dancount on everyone working together to bring you shows starting and different times, so everyone can go to everything! (if that’s the kind of Thursday you’re ready to have).

First things first, the first show is at SATELLITE RECORDS and features out of town hardcore punk experimenters out of Philadephia, SOUL GLO. Soul Glo have a somewhat oldschool punk sound blended with a lot of unusual takes on hardcore. Straightforward punk never seems to be the thing Kalamazoo loves, so this would be worth checking out.

Joining Soul Glo are local revived favorites SEVENTEEN AGAIN, as well as a gnarly no-wave punk band GET FUCKED (THE BAND).

THIS SHOW STARTS AT 6:00 PM! Early show so that you can leave and get on with your life, or continue on to the free show at Bell’s. Please bring donation for Soul Glo, as they are making their way on tour.

The show at BELL’S features three beloved local bands. Comes see them in a room that’ll moldmake them sound how they’re supposed to.

EVERYONE AND THEIR EMPTY CUPS are long-standing grungy punk fuckery you can dance to.

MOLD are locals possessed by prog gods, the names of which you never knew.

and THE SHORTLIFE are the most sonically pleasing punk band in town.

This show is free for those who are 21+, and does not exist for those who aren’t. Starts at 9:00 PM. Tip yr bartender.

Too Heavy, Too Good – Hordes, Seventeen Again, Shoto, Forget The Times – Bespin – 2.13 + Bonus show at Satellite Records!

When noise bands become metal, when metal becomes punk, when punk becomes indecipherable – then you’ve got this show happening at BESPIN (aka Cloud City).

This winter has seen a slow down in house shows, so if you’re looking to break up the drabness of the February weather, this would be a solid opportunity.

HORDES are long time experimenters out of Lansing, MI, who are bringing their heaviest, doomiest set yet to Kalamazoo.

SEVENTEEN AGAIN are back after a hiatus, and they’ve got new material to show off. Plus, because they’re mostly playing new stuff, their set is as short as when the first began, so you’re going to want to make it there on time to be sure you don’t miss ’em.

SHOTO are the heaviest, most technical band around Kalamazoo featuring three of the nicest guys that look somewhat like Charles Manson.

FORGET THE TIMES bring a new thing every time, and honestly it’s always been my favorite to see what their improvised set becomes on a louder set. You will not be disappointed.

This show begins at 9:00! Bring donation! Be swell as hell!

PLUS THERE IS A SHOW AT SATELLITE RECORDS STARTING AT 6:00 PM YOU CAN GO TO FIRST, FEATURING FORMER RESIDENT OF KZOO KYLE LANDSTRA!

KYLE LANDSTRA, GARDENER, SID REDLIN

Les Rhinocéros, Mold, Seventeen Again – Milhouse – Monday 4/28

Les Rhinocéros is a really great groovy experimental math rock band from Washington, DC. Don’t take my word for it, there are plenty of places you can find them on the internet. I had the opportunity to catch them at the Milhouse last year and I was absolutely blown away by their technical prowess and ability to create interesting and captivating emotive sounds-capes. If you’re a musician you should really check these guys out. I know that as an aspiring drummer I was inspired by the way their drummer plays.

Seventeen Again are awesome. They are one of my favorite local groups. Seventeen Again is like running with the bulls in Pamplona and falling down but getting out of the way just in time. Their sets are usually short and sweet so don’t miss out.

MOLD I am excited to see MOLD because as far as I know they are a relatively new outfit including former members of PAN. They are driving and volatile. They have conflict, they have resolution. They have angst, they have anger. They just christened a new venue a couple weeks ago at what looks like it was a stellar show.

This is sure to be a great show. You can’t miss seeing talented bands like this grace the same stage in Kalamazoo.

LOVE SUCKS IN CAPITAL LETTERS–but music doesn’t; Love Sucks Fest Thursday through Saturday @Milhouse and Touchdown City

Valentines shows should be wildly inappropriate and off theme from mainstream heart-throb media–not enough ferocious growling and volcano guitars beating eardrums until they burst, so by golly that is just what is going on this coming weekend.

Starting this Thursday, possibly in honor of St. Valentine’s Day or maybe just because Thursday is the new Friday, the irreverent folks from Milhouse and Touchdown City set-up a three day music festival for those that don’t feel struck enough by love.

Tim Tapper has had words with critics before, but he has words for the faint of heart as well, and will play upon those cardio-strings with a ambling echoey mentality that escapes the trends of the other bands this weekend. He opens up the festival Thursday, 9 p.m., at Touchdown City.

Following him comes one-man guitar drone beamed straight out of a cassette tape Sean Hartman (of Forget the Times fame/ilk). Velvet Talk Motel, Trinket, and Abortion Survivors will also be playing Thursday.

But hey, in case an adrenaline shot wasn’t enough, a good-old boot-stomping from The Reptillian, Atalanta (Chicago), Sin Orden, and Greenwashed Friday night in the depths of the murky basement that is Milhouse. Bring your extra sweat lozenges. Atalanta jams hard while grating some garage screams, The Reptillian does its punk flambé of their electrics, and Sin Orden will fill in the gaps. Haven’t heard of Greenwashed, but surprises are a treat. Same time, 9 p.m.

Saturday? Oh yes, one more day in case everyone’s limbs aren’t broken and a thousand toothy grins haven’t been hockey-player ruined by this point. Statia does this:

–which is somewhere in between what a rock-opera and a scream-band would sound like, with Fisherking dialing it down to more of droney, speedy, epic battle of guitars and mountain-top yelps. That probably isn’t dialed down, but if you still have hearing by this point, then it should be. Seventeen Again rounds out the night. Same time as the other nights, back at Touchdown City.

Have fun, respect the house, respect each other (don’t actually break anyone’s bones), and maybe send some donations around. I’m sure someone will give you a hug.
